About Maria Broderick
Maria’s practice combines Chinese herbal medicine with pediatric acupuncture to address common conditions of childhood and adolescence and to support family health. In her practice, she tailors both acupuncture and herbal medicine to the developmental needs of young patients, ensuring that the overall approach to treatment is well-suited to children’s unique needs and the demands of family life.
Maria’s training in Oriental Medicine included specialized internships at Boston Medical Center’s in-patient pediatric unit and outpatient adolescent clinic. While a graduate student in Oriental medicine, she received a Schweitzer Fellowship to develop a specialty clinic on treating adolescents with ADHD. She has pursued advanced training with experienced clinicians in pediatric acupuncture and pediatric Chinese herbal medicine.
Maria’s doctoral studies in human development and psychology focused on understanding how the experience of chronic illness impacts cognitive, emotional and spiritual development in children and adults. Maria has conducted research on the efficacy of holistic approaches to promoting health and well-being at Harvard’s Mind/Body Medical Institute, at Boston area hospitals and research centers, and at the Harvard Graduate School of Education, where she was appointed a post-doctoral fellow and served on the faculty as Lecturer in Education.
In addition to treating a range of conditions, Maria has two areas of special interest: helping children and adolescents regain and maintain emotional balance and supporting families who are grieving.
Maria remains active in support of the goals of the Schweitzer Fellowship, which honors the life and work of Albert Schweitzer.
